If your old air conditioner is on its way out replace it with ENERGY STAR® labeled.  They are more efficient than the conventional models.

Green Tip for March 2013

Replace old single pane windows (R-1) with new high performance dual pane windows (R-4) to keep more heat in winter time and more heat out in summer.

Green Tip for February 2013

Set the furnace thermostat at 68 degrees or lower, and the air-conditioner thermostat at 78 degrees or higher, health permitting. 3 percent to 5 percent more energy is used for each degree the furnace is set above 68 degrees and for each degree the air conditioner is set below 78 degrees

Never burn painted wood, particle board, plastics, Styrofoam,  wrapping paper or other garbage in your fireplace. It can pollute the air indoor.

1. Recycle cards that you received, reuse them to make decoration or make gift tags.

2.  Decorate your Christmas tree and home’s exterior with LED (light-emitting diodes) holiday lights. They use only a fraction of the energy that conventional lights use. They also last longer and save you money and energy.

Green Tip for Fall 2012

Fall is the best time to replace your lawn with native plants.  Let the winter rain help water your new plants.  Once the native plants are established they no longer need water after two years.  Water is a precious resource.  Landscape irrigation can account for 40% of total residential water usage.  You save water and save money.
